Bank account
To open a bank account in Switzerland, most banks require a valid residence permit. An exception is Postfinance, where you can open an account even without a permit. Before opening an account, compare the fees charged by different banks for account maintenance, debit cards (Maestro or other debit cards), and credit cards. Depending on your needs and your assets, the fees can vary considerably. Some banks require foreign nationals to pay a deposit when opening an account. This deposit is refunded when you close the account.
