Together, we will look at legal and ethical basics, scientific accuracy, effective prompting, useful tools, and practical workflows that may enhance your research practice.

The skill of writing an article – and getting it published in a peer reviewed journal – is highly prized, but rarely taught. This one-day course concentrates on this skill, and in particular on the process of writing. Participants should come with an idea for an article, and during the day they will work this up in easy stages.

Every researcher working with empirical data needs a solid understanding of statistical data analysis. Yet, statistics is often taught in abstract ways, disconnected from real research questions. This hands-on online course bridges that gap by focusing on participants’ own data and projects.

Unresolved conflict can paralyze cooperation within projects and departments, as well as poison the atmosphere in the workplace. This is especially true if conflict continues to rumble on in the background or for long periods. In academia the “games“ tend to be more sophisticated yet, the patterns remain the same. This workshop introduces you to key competencies for successful conflict resolution. Using analysis, self-management and communication tools learned here you can turn each confrontation into a constructive process.

Scientists can benefit from the inspirational, educational, and motivational power of films to communicate their knowledge and expertise to both peer scientists and the general public.

Unfortunately, the technical skills for filming and editing, as well as developing a strong narrative, lie outside our training as academic scientists. In this workshop, participants will learn about camera, audio, lighting equipment, and how to use film editing software, together with how to write, design and carry out the basics of making a documentary. This practice-focused workshop will include filming short documentary films.

Freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems are closely interconnected, but they are often studied in isolation from each other.
