Informationsanlass des SIAF zu den Gefahren von schädigenden Chemikalien und Umweltgiften

Swiss Institute of Asthma and Allergy Research

With Prof. Cezmi Akdis, MD, Professor, Direktor Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos I Professor Universität Zürich

The Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos is highlighting an underestimated danger that lurks in the numerous tourism and healthcare facilities in the region: harmful chemicals, for example, found in industrial detergents and cleaning products used in the hospitality and gastronomy industry, can damage the skin and mucous membrane barriers. An informational event with SIAF Director Professor Cezmi Akdis will take place on Friday, December 8th, and is specifically aimed at representatives from the hospitality, gastronomy, and healthcare sectors (starting at 5 pm at the Innovation Center Davos - Co-Working Space).

People are exposed to many environmental substances and chemicals. Numerous substances can harm the protective layers of the skin, lungs, and intestines, known as the epithelium. When these epithelial barriers become compromised, bacteria, for example, can infiltrate the tissues and lead to local, often chronic inflammation. This can result in or exacerbate chronic diseases like allergies, autoimmune, neurodegenerative, and mental health disorders in nearly two billion people worldwide. These harmful chemicals are also present in industrial detergents, cleaning products, toothpaste, and food items, which are used in the hospitality, gastronomy, healthcare, and other sectors.

What can we do? In our daily lives, we should try to avoid exposure to these harmful substances, use alternative products, pay attention to healthy nutrition, and advocate for the use and development of less toxic products. At the same time, we hope that research will soon develop new approaches for prevention, early intervention, and treatment.

Der Vortrag ist in Englisch. Im Anschluss sind alle zu einem Apero eingeladen.
