Climate-induced changes in the Alpine cryosphere and their geomorphic impacts

WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF

As in all mountain ranges in the world, snow, glaciers and permafrost in the European Alps are undergoing major changes in the context of current global change. After describing this evolution of the cryosphere, which has accelerated since the 1990s, especially as mountains are more affected by global warming, we will show its impact on geomorphic processes such as rockfall, rock and ice avalanches, debris flows, moraine failure or lake dynamics.
