Researchers Beer

At the Researchers Beer, held in the foyer of Kulturplatz Davos on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm, researchers and curious minds come together to meet, exchange ideas, and talk about science in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Special Guests on 7 April are Pierre-Yves Mantel and Ganesh Phad from CK-CARE, as well as Tim Heinemann from CSEM. Together with additional partners, they are conducting research within the PRIDE project, which is funded by the TMG association as part of the initiative “Translational Medicine at Interfaces”. The project focuses on a frequently underestimated complication following cardiac surgery: post-pericardiotomy syndrome (PPS).

PPS is an inflammatory autoimmune reaction that can occur in up to forty percent of patients after heart surgery and may have serious consequences. To date, it is difficult to predict who will be affected. This is where PRIDE comes in: the project investigates how the immune system changes after cardiac surgery and which biomarkers can indicate an increased risk of PPS at an early stage.

Using modern immune profiling, large datasets, and artificial intelligence, the researchers aim to better understand PPS, detect it earlier, and enable more targeted treatments for the benefit of patients and the healthcare system alike.
