HideResearchers Beer - Casual conversations about research for all
Academia Raetica
Location: Kulturplatz Davos, Promenade 58c, Davos Platz
Start: 6:30 p.m.
Graubünden has a diverse and an internationally well-connected scientific landscape. The Davos research institutes, which employ more than 300 researchers, are part of this. In addition, there is a large number of research-interested locals and guests who populate the “Science City”.
At the “Researchers Beer” in the foyer of the Kulturplatz Davos, scientists and citizens with a thirst for knowledge meet at 6:30 pm on the first Tuesday of the month to exchange ideas and get to know each other. To each “Researchers Beer” the Academia Raetica invites a person from its scientific network, who talks about their research in Graubünden in a moderated conversation as well as a short presentation and shares their knowledge with the audience.
On February 6, Academia Raetica welcomes Jürg Schweizer. After graduating in environmental physics and completing a PhD in glaciology Jürg Schweizer joined the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in 1990 – located at those times high up on the Weissfluhjoch. He still has fond memories of his one-year research stay in Canada (1995-1996). During the last 30 years he has made significant research contributions in snow mechanics, avalanche formation and forecasting, was responsible for the SLF’s educational courses for avalanche professionals, investigated numerous avalanche accidents and has been an expert witness in many court cases. He is presently the head of SLF.
Immediately after the Researchers Beer, the film "Buried" will be shown at the Kulturplatz Davos.
The event will be held in English.
