The Academia Raetica

Science, research and education in the Grisons

The Academia Raetica, based in Davos, is an association dedicated to promoting science, research, and education in the canton of Graubünden and its surroundings. Its membership comprises thirty institutional members, including research institutes, universities, and clinics, along with eleven partner institutions. Established in 2006, its mission is to support young scientists, facilitate networking among its members, and advocate for their interests in politics and the public sphere. In addition to fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the Academia Raetica plays a pivotal role in advancing scientific endeavors and contributing to the region's intellectual and economic development.

A link between science, business, politics and the public

Based on a mandate from the canton of Graubünden, the Academia Raetica promotes education and training of scientists through transferable skills courses and networking opportunities. The conference "Graubünden forscht" offers young researchers a platform to present and reflect on their work. Furthermore, the conference brings together researchers from a variety of fields to discuss common scientific questions concerning the Alpine region in a multi-disciplinary context. At the same time, the conference is an opportunity to showcase the broad range of research activities in Graubünden to both the general public and policy makers.

The Academia Raetica connects and supports its members in cooperation projects with each other as well as with research institutions outside the canton. It communicates with cantonal authorities  and industrial partners, and promotes dialogue between the different disciplines. Further, it informs the general public and policy makers about the social and economic importance of research in the canton. It supports the government in implementing its higher education, research, and innovation strategy. The Academia Raetica was last evaluated in 2018 by the Swiss Agency for Accreditation and Quality Assurance.
