Academia Raetica, CSEM - Swiss Research and Development Center for Microtechnology
Location: Kulturplatz Davos, Promenade 58c, Davos Platz
Start: 6:30 p.m.
Graubünden has a diverse and an internationally well-connected scientific landscape. The Davos research institutes, which employ more than 300 researchers, are part of this. In addition, there is a large number of research-interested locals and guests who populate the “Science City”.
At the “Researchers Beer” in the foyer of the Kulturplatz Davos, scientists and citizens with a thirst for knowledge meet at 6:30 pm on the first Tuesday of the month to exchange ideas and get to know each other. To each “Researchers Beer” the Academia Raetica invites a person from its scientific network, who talks about their research in Graubünden in a moderated conversation as well as a short presentation and shares their knowledge with the audience.
Special Guests
The Researchers Beer on March 5 deals with the topic "Diversity in Research and Tech". Women and people from other cultures are underrepresented in the Swiss IT and tech sector. This is both a social and an economic problem. Various research and tech companies have therefore launched a four-year federal project to raise awareness and identify solutions for the integration of diversity and equality in the IT and tech sector.
David Schmid, co-project manager, and Samantha Paoletti both work for CSEM in Landquart and are also committed to equal working conditions there.
Samantha Paoletti, a PhD immunologist and co-head of the Life Science Technologies department at CSEM, focuses on identifying market needs and strategic planning of internal research. She is passionate about personalized medicine and the development of innovative technologies for accurate and accessible healthcare. She also promotes gender equality in CSEM's diversity team and was recognized as a Female Digital Innovator by FEMtrepreneurs in 2020.
David Schmid has been Head of Regional Development and Cooperation at the Swiss Technology Innovation Center CSEM in Eastern Switzerland since 2021. With over 15 years of experience in applied research and leading multidisciplinary teams in national and international projects, he is committed to diversity and equality. As co-founder of the Bündner Netzwerk Diversity-gr (https://diversity-gr.ch/) and co-project leader of the federal project to promote diversity and equality in the IT and tech industry, he is actively involved in these issues.
The event will be held in English.
