The SLF is an interdisciplinary research and service center. The scientists study snow and its interaction with the atmosphere, the formation and dynamics of avalanches and other alpine natural hazards, the optimization of protective measures, permafrost and mountain ecosystems and their response to climate change.

The knowledge gained at the SLF flows into the development of innovative products with the aim of providing research, authorities and industry with handy tools that can be used, for example, for the risk management of natural hazards or the analysis of climate and environmental changes. As part of the ETH domain, the SLF works closely with ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne and offers a research positions to around 35 Master's and PhD students.

Established in 2021, the CERC is part of the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos.

The research centre CERC focuses on climate change, extreme events and natural hazards in mountain areas. It is supported by the Canton of Grisons and the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL and will be supported by ETH Zurich.
