8 weeks after removal of the M3 in the, a 3cm defect is created in the mandible. The defect is filled with a cage specifically 3-D printed for and the mandible double plated. The cage is filled with a cancellous bone graft, harvested from the ileac wing during the same surgery. The AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) is a global leader in basic and preclinical research in the field of the human musculoskeletal system. International and interdisciplinary groups of surgeons and scientists are working on new methods to improve the treatment of patients with bone fractures, defects and age-related diseases. New materials and implants are developed using methods from infectiology, biomechanical testing, imaging, cell and tissue cultivation, and preclinical surgery, and are tested for their effectiveness.
