As postdoc, group leader, PI, or PhD candiate you are taking over the responsibility as supervisor for students. In this workshop we will focus on supervisor skills necessary in the supervisor role. We will ask questions of expectations on both sides as supervisor and as student. Further we will reflect on good agreements for the supervision process and point out difficult situations.

Aims
The participants:
reflect on their experiences during their PhD and draw conclusions for the supervisor’s role
know basics of coaching/counselling for supervision (e.g. meeting structure, questioning attitude etc.)
develop an individual guideline for their own supervision processes
Content
In this workshop we will:
reflect on your own experience during your PhD and collect conclusions for the new role as supervisor
become aware of the different skills as supervisor
get conscious about possible problems during a supervision
know the importance of clearly defined agreements
know principles of supervision in comparison with coaching/consulting like question types, one’s own questioning attitude
practice how a meeting whit a student could be designed
develop a guideline for forthcoming supervision processes
Methods
Input, individual work, exchange in groups and group work, exercises, preparatory task
Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences in exchange with the group.
