Stefan Engler became president of Academia Raetica in 2016. After studying law at the University of Berne, he obtained the Bündnerische Anwaltspatent. His political career led him through numerous positions: Since 2011, he is a member of the Swiss council of states for the Canton of Grisons. In 1999, he became a member of the governing council of the Canton of Grisons and head of the Department for Building, Transport and Forestry. In 2003 and 2008, he presided over the governing council. Previously he was president of the District Court Albula (1995–1999). He was also the president of Belfort County (1991–1997) and Surava (1990–1998).
Since 2011, he heads the board of directors of the Rhätische Bahn AG. He is on the board of directors for several businesses: Grischelectra AG, Lazzarini AG, SPAETER Chur. He is president of the board of trustees of “Schweizmobil”.
