Jürg Kessler is the first Vice Chancellor of the merged HTW Chur and a professor for corporate management. As President of the Teaching Commission of the Chamber of Universities of Applied Sciences and a delegate of the Teaching department of swissuniversities, he is committed to representing the concerns of the teaching profession at a national level.
Jürg Kessler graduated as a qualified surveyor (MSc ETH) from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) and subsequently went on to work for several years as an engineer at a company before completing a lic. oec. publ. Master’s degree in Economics (MA UZH) at the University of Zurich.
Following his studies, he worked for 11 years at Zurich Insurance, and finished his time there as a member of management. Wanting to return to a role that was once again more closely linked to the ‘direct application of engineering’, he opted to move to Unique (the former name for Zurich airport) where he managed the ‘Buildings’ area as a member of the Executive Board. In this role, among other tasks, as overall project manager he oversaw the expansion of the airport with building work totalling CHF 2.1 billion. He was able to contribute his great experience in dealing with people during the grounding of Swissair, for example; he was head of one of the four task forces responsible for crisis management activities at the time.
