Stefan Engler served as President of Academia Raetica from 2016 to 2020. After studying law at the University of Bern, he was admitted to the Grisons bar and served as part-time president of the Albula District Court from 1995-1999, and as a member of the cantonal government as head of the Department of Construction, Transport and Forestry from 1999 onwards.
His political career has included numerous positions: he was president of the Belfort district from 1991 to 1997, mayor of Surava from 1990 to 1998, member of the cantonal parliament from 1987 to 1999, and member of the cantonal government from 1999 to 2010 (president of the cantonal government in 2003 and 2008). Since 2011, Stefan Engler has been a member of the Council of States for the Canton of Grisons. He has also chaired the Board of Directors of Rhätische Bahn AG since 2011. He also serves on the boards of Grischelectra AG, Lazzarini AG, SPAETER Chur AG and EWD AG. He is also Chairman of the “Schweizmobil” Foundation.
